When Is a Paid Link Not Black Hat?
Google says in their Webmaster Guidelines that “Buying or selling links that pass PageRank is in violation of Google’s Webmaster Guidelines and can negatively impact a site’s ranking in search results.” However, right in the next paragraph they admit that “Buying and selling links is a normal part of the economy of the web when done for advertising purposes, and not for manipulation of search results. Links purchased for advertising should be designated as such.”

Hey Nick,
Without being able to read the post this moment, I stopped doing any sort of link purchasing a few years ago. However, look at it how you may (and I don’t deem this “Black Hat”), quality article posting on your site (paid w/ dofollow) and paid banner ads with dofollow as well, or even blogging for someone or web content from one site to another (the clients), no matter how you look at it, these links are paid….but really, isn’t it earned and (supposedly) relevant content and links as opposed to farming?
