How Not to Blow the Job Interview When Asked About Earnings Goals

More often than not, job interviewees do themselves more harm than good in terms of their likelihood of landing the job as well as the amount they’ll be paid with the prospective employer asks about earnings goals. Make no mistake about it: this is a trick question, and one for which there is only one single correct answer: “As much money as I can.”

While this may sound counter-intuitive, it’s the dirty little secret about what they’re really asking you: “How ambitious are you.”

    When a prospective employer asks how much money you’d like to make, he’s really asking you about how motivated and ambitious you really are.

    Don’t be afraid to answer with a high dollar amount. Even if the company can’t or won’t pay it, it will tell them that you’re ambitious, which can only help your cause.
