Overcoming Fear When Starting a Blog or a Diet

It is astounding how similar the fears those trying to control their weight and those trying to build a career as bloggers are. Probably this stems from the fact that whenever we decide to act and do something positive about negative situations we find ourselves in, we always find opposition rising up against us in various forms.
Swimming against the current has never been easy. Whether it is putting yourself on a weight loss programme or creating a blog that will be the toast of the Internet, we are guaranteed to be assailed by a barrage of fears and doubts along the way.
So the question is which are these anxieties that grip us when we venture out towards our goals and how can we prevent them from scuppering our efforts? I am both a blogger and a weight watcher and in the last few years have experienced 3 types of fear. In this article I am going to show you how I dealt with them.
Dealing with the fear of humiliation
This is a common fear among overweight people that sees many of them opt for indoor exercises. Even though they would like to incorporate gym routines or swimming into their workout, they’re afraid that people will mock their physiques or their inability to do certain exercises. If you’re facing this struggle, you need to know that other people are really far too occupied with their own problems to let you dominate their minds. And if you’re not too sure of this, get a friend to tag along with you for moral support.
For those fledgling bloggers fearing to make their first steps because they think the quality of their writing is wanting or their content is not deep enough, you need to know that even the best started off with those same doubts. And look where they are now because they stuck at it.
Dealing with the fear of failure
You’ve launched your blog and four or five months down the line, you have virtually no signs of rewards for your efforts. Barely a trickle of traffic despite the tons of articles and your best efforts to promote the site. At this point you wonder whether it is worth pressing on or if you’re better off calling it quits. The same fear grips those who have thrown themselves into fitness regimes expecting to see signs of improvement within a couple of weeks. If you’re one of them you’re probably familiar with the sinking you get after putting in long hours on the treadmill and aerobics sessions only to see those layers of flab clinging stubbornly to your waistline.
There is a simple way of dealing with such disappointments and it is all in the ‘A’ of SMART objectives. Your goals, be they blog or fitness-related need to be Achievable. It is wise to tell yourself that you won’t become the most-read blogger overnight. Similarly, those looking to shed weight should keep their eyes off the mirror for the first couple of months, determining instead to give each gym session their best go.
Dealing with the fear of success
The fear of ‘backsliding’ after achieving some degree of success can be a very serious drawback. You are finally fitting back into that pair of jeans you were on the verge of discarding but you think, ’it’s only a matter of time before the kilos come back’. This is the voice of someone so used to defeat they don’t know how to accept victory. What you need to do instead is reach over and pat yourself on the back. Pat yourself on the back for sticking with it through the months and years of toil.
What kind of fears have you experienced in your blogging or weight loss journey and how did you deal with them?

I think in most cases we don’t fear from success or failure we fear from time, we fear of wasting time on something that will end up nowhere. so time is what we fear most

Any fear has a negative impact on progress and we should do all we can to eliminate it.
